Northfleet Technology College @ the Royal Society Young Researchers Zone
July 5th - 7th was a landmark set of days for NTC. Nine students, Miss Ball, Mr Earley and Mr Jones spent 3 days in London at the Royal Society Summer Exhibition showcasing our Nature Reserve to visitors. The days were long and very hot. Wednesday and Thursday had 2 parts: daytime members of the public and visiting scientists, evening from 7:00 - 10:00 invited members of the scientific community. This gave our students the opportunity to discuss and be questioned by a range of doctors and professors including Sir Martyn Polikof and the Minister of State for Science.
This was strictly a student driven event. Staff were very much in the background, students discussing climate change, biodiversity and what we can do to prevent further damage to the Earth.
Our Bee Enterprise for the Nature Reserve proved to be a particular hit with just about all visitors. They could see the links between our community planting over a 1000 trees, installing a new pond and building an apiary.
During the YRZ we were interviewed by a film crew who were interested in the how, why and what next of our Nature Reserve Project. You can catch the action here at minute 42 for NTC.
